Our Energetic Self

Becoming aware of your energetic self is like anything else. When you participate in any physical activity, you become aware of your heart rate, muscles, and your breath. We are emotional beings and when we laugh, cry, experience joy, pain, excitement, etc., we are exercising our emotions . . . . self expression! When you read, study, or do puzzles, you are exercising and feeding your mind. Those who go to church, meditate, pray, or perform their daily offerings and rituals, are exercising their spirituality. When you eat you are feeding and nourishing the physical body. Being aware of our Self on all levels, physically, emotionally, psychologically, and spiritually, can help us to maintain homeostasis as a whole being.

There is yet another aspect of ourself, another level if you will, that is our ‘energetic self’. It allows us to send and receive information energetically. This is how we communicate to the world around us. This is the part of us that generally recognizes when something is ‘not right’ or when something just ‘feels right’. Some people call it ‘intuition’ or will sometimes explain it as ‘a gut feeling’.  These are all feelings or premonitions we receive through our energetic self. We are all electomagnetic beings down to the very atoms of our cells. Whether we are aware of it or not, we are connected, and affected, by the different frequencies in our environment and in the atmosphere. Weather patterns and pressure systems, negative and positive ions, and changes in our environment are conditions which can affect us in our entirety.

In Chinese Medicine, our energy, or life force, is referred to as Chi. In Ayurvedic Medicine, it is referred to as Prana. Hawaiian culture refers to it as Mana, and Ki is the term used in Japanese culture. Energy is our Life Force. I believe there is no separation or singularity of energy. Energy flows through everything! Yoga, Qi Gong, and Tai Chi are all forms of practice that can help us to exercise and become more aware of ourselves on an energetic level. Nature also helps us to connect more closely with our energetic self.

We all communicate, receive information, are affected by, and engage energetically everyday.  Our focus, in society today and in the last several hundred years, has been centered on monetary success, status, employment, societal progress, material possessions, instant gratification, etc. and we’ve lost touch with a very important aspect of ourselves, which is inherently part of our nature.  Our energetic self. We are born being energetically aware, we just lose touch with it. As we grow older, our focus is often directed to what is outside of ourselves and we lose sight of the importance of our inner self. Whether we are aware of it or not, we are all energetic beings.
